In celebration of its 65th anniversary the Dutch GKf Photographers Associating will be hosting an international festival in the Amsterdam photography museum FOAM under the theme:
The Value of Photography
The festival is free of charge and open to photographers, photography students and all those interested in photography. Foam museum is open from 10:00am to 6:00pm.
The program will be held in three of FOAM’s main exhibition rooms. Furthermore video presentations and portfolio reviews will be held in various other rooms throughout the building.
Copyright and the neighbors
Extensive attention will be given to the current situation of copyright laws in Germany, where photographers are in bitter stride with their publishers regarding copyrights. Leading German photographers will give presentations and engage in a debate with their Dutch colleagues as to how to protect ones work against unfair contracts. With Frederic Lezmi, Kai Wiedenhöfer, Bettina Flitner, Peter Bitzer (director photo bureau Laif) Heiner Müller-Elsner (German Freelance Photographers Association) en Lars Boering (Dutch Photographers Federation).
Lectures
The British photographer Andy Sewell, who is considered by Martin Parr to be the leading British talent of this moment, will give a lecture on his newest project ‘The Heath’.
WassinkLundgren is a collaboration between Thijs groot Wassink (1981) and Ruben Lundgren (1983). They live, work and study in both London (Wassink) and Beijing (Lundgren).
Conflict Photography
Panel discussion referring to the lecture by Magnum Photographer Peter van Agtmael on his work in Iraq. Experienced war photographers share their insights with one another and the public. Guest speakers (presence pending): Robert Knoth, Henk Braam, Jeroen Kramer, Marielle van Uitert, Jan Joseph Stok en Ruben Terlou.
The Changing Portrait Studio
Through the use of a digital portrait studio portrait photographers talk about their differing visions. The public will be able to take a look through the photographer’s camera via the digital studio.
Participating photographers: Daniëlle van Ark, Joost van den Broek, Bert Nienhuis, Sander Veeneman, Corbino, Mirjana Vrbaski, Friso Keuris, Hapé Smeele and Jan Banning.
The Street and Privacy
In reference to a new documentary film (what film?) street photographers present their work and discuss the prevalence of surveillance cameras in public spaces whilst the privacy laws regarding the use of photography become ever more strict. With: Reinier Gerritsen, Theo Niekus, Janine Schrijver, Maarten Laupman en Lisette Varossieau (Lawyer Intellectual Property)
New Media
Will the IPad create possibilities for publication and generation of income for photographers? Introduction by Bas Vroege (Paradox) with examples of various photographers, including among others Kadir van Lohuizen.
Portfolio reviews with famous photographers
Meetings with well known photographers will be organized especially for graduating photographers and young members of the GKf. Enrolment information following shortly.
Print on demand
Photographers share their experiences regarding ‘print on demand books’.
Including among others: Wil van Iersel, Dirk Wiersma, Tom Meerman en Frederic Lezmi (Democratic Books). In collaboration with Blurb Books.
Do photographers retire?
Two young photographers, Tryntsje Nauta and Erika Blikman, have researched the generation of 65+ photographers and will give a presentation of their findings.
The GKf One Minutes
The winning entry of the GKf commissioned ‘one minute’ video presentation depicting a (historical) GKf photographer will be announced and presented. All of the videos, which were made by 36 photography students from five academies will be shown during the festival. (In collaboration with the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten KABK Den Haag, Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht HKU, Academie St Joost Breda, Fotovakschool, Fotoacademie and The One Minutes Foundation.)
GKf Film Documentary
During the festival photographer/filmer Gerard Wessel will be working on a film depicting the 65th anniversary of the GKf.
